The first edition of the Unexpected art festival that was organized by 64.6 Downtown and curated by JUSTKIDS took place from September 3 until September 12, 2015, in downtown Fort Smith.
In the new book Unexpected Art, site-specific works are plunged into the most jarring and unlikely of places – from a crescent moon that has fallen into Auckland to candy-pink clouds cropping up in Denver’s airport.
Yarn bombs are fun, spontaneous forms of street art – bits of crochet or knit yarn placed in unexpected places. Some think of it as “graffiti knitting.” They can be large, covering an expansive area like the side of a building, or small, wrapping a portion of a stop sign pole. They typically include bright colors and patterns and bring attention to mundane objects found in our everyday environment.
The Unexpected, an ambitious local effort to bring significant public artworks to the streets of Ft. Smith in an effort to revitalize the downtown area.
