The increased wealth of Greece in the 7th century BC was enhanced by overseas trade and by colonizing activity in Italy and Sicily that had opened new markets and resources.
Let's visit the famous Athenian home of Pericles in Assassin's Creed Odyssey Discovery Mode! In this video I provide a guided tour of a typical wealthy Athenian home while discussing private security, architecture, social norms, cooking, bathing, and more. This educational tour in a virtual Athenian home is just one of many videos I will be producing on the daily life of ancient Greeks. A huge thanks once again to the Assassin's Creed Odyssey team for all the work that went into the base game and especially the discovery mode.
Crowned by the mighty Parthenon temple, the Acropolis rises above modern Athens; a lasting testament to Greece's glorious golden age. The Acropolis was the center of ritual and ceremony, and the religious heart of the city. The marketplace at its base is Agora, which was the hub of commercial, political, and social life.
Architecture of Ancient Athens
How did the ancient Greeks build the Acropolis, and what it keeps it standing to this day?
In part two of the ICAA's four-part educational video series on classical architecture, architectural historian Calder Loth explores the fundamental role that Greek classicism has played in the development of Western architectural traditions.
To the Western world, ancient Greece is one of the most significant civilisations that ever existed. From philosophy and mathematics to new ways of thinking about politics, history, art and science, the Greeks left a lasting legacy that had a great influence on other cultures. This program presents children with interesting facts about the ancient Greeks and their customs, taking them to the Acropolis and the Parthenon, and teaching them about Greek mythology, great Greek leaders and orators, the Olympic Games and the beginnings of democracy.
