Nutritionist Resources

Whether you are a bodybuilder, a professional athlete or simply exercising to improve your health, sports nutrition plays a key role in optimising the beneficial effects of physical activity. Making better decisions with your nutrition and hydration can result in improved performance, recovery and injury prevention.

British Nutrition Foundation

Following healthy eating guidelines alone can support an active lifestyle. However when exercising, your body will use up more energy. Unless you are trying to lose weight you may find that you need to eat more food to give your body the extra energy it needs.

This program, featuring interviews with dieticians from the Australian Institute of Sport, looks at the importance of nutrients in our diet to support physical activity.

Without the right fuel at the right time, an athlete’s performance inevitably suffers. Understanding the critical roles of nutrition and hydration in sport are explored in this fresh, revealing programme for senior secondary physical education audiences. Viewers are taken on a diary-type journey as Ironman Triathlete Bradley Conder prepares for the “big day”. A leading sports dietician examines how energy sources – particularly carbohydrates, proteins and sporting drinks – affect athletes at three different stages: pre-competition, during competition and post-competition. The meticulous nature of a high-performance diet are highlighted throughout the programme, illustrating just how far sports science has come and the constant demands the next generation of athletes will face.

Food and nutrients are one of our basic needs. Food helps to give us energy, repair and replace cells and allow growth to occur.  Food is also one of the most important factors in making us go “fast” and allowing for peak physical performance in sporting activities. When people exercise they burn energy, can damage muscles and become dehydrated.

This programme will help students to understand the role that both foods and nutrients play in allowing themselves and elite athletes to enhance physical performance and succeed in all sporting arenas, whether it is the local football competition or in the AFL

Sportspeople, at any level, are always looking for ways to enhance their performance. This programme provides a valuable overview of the many facets of performance enhancement. Australian middle distance runner Craig Mottram and UK 400m runner Iwan Thomas talk about their experiences at the elite level as the programme discusses coaching, nutrition, psychological preparation, the use of technology and ergogenic aids.

The programme guides students through the process of selecting nutritious ingredients and adapting simple recipes to prepare a healthy and delicious lunch or main meal for themselves, or perhaps even their whole family.
