In the first in a series of collaborative reports about water problems around the world, Fred de Sam Lazaro reports on the shortage of potable water in Ethiopia and how the effort required to maintain existing watering points affects millions of people every day.

Despite the influx of large amounts of international aid into Afghanistan, getting access to water remains a daily struggle for a large part of the country. The government says almost three quarters of the population do not have access to clean water. As Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford reports from Kabul, even drinking from wells built by aid agencies is no longer safe.
