Founded in the 19th century, Maredsous monastery has a much more distant past. In fact, more than a thousand years. Here is a brief summary. So you can see the tradition we stand in and you will perceive our present day characteristics.

Sister Philomena Gallagher SGS

Mary Gallagher entered the Good Samaritan Institute in 1927. Her intellect was recognised early and she was enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University. She competed a BA Dip Ed majoring in History and Latin, English Mathematics and Economics.

Maredsous Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located in Maredsous, Belgium. The monastery was founded in 1872 by Benedictine monks and is known for its neo-Gothic architectural style.

Good Samaritan Foundation

Good Samaritan Sisters have lived in the city of Bacolod on Negros Island in the Philippines for over 25 years. They work alongside and in support of families living in the squatter settlements of Boulevard and Mambuloc and those whose home is on the street.
